ReplyDeleteI think your learning activities are good. Activity One just seems to throw the students in at the deep end, and in that lies your problem. It's a very open question which requires a lot of work and, as you put it, reflection.
Try to scaffold your students to this position with some simpler tasks first.
Perhaps quizzing dates and events and some of the information in the articles, to finally end up with your learning activity.
